FAQ

How does the auction work?

The mint price will start at a predetermined 0.1 ETH per mint and decrease at set 45-minute intervals, until all the NFTs in the collection have been minted or the price reaches the set minimum price of 0.02 ETH. If the auction reaches the minimum price, any remaining NFTs will thereafter be available for minting at the minimum price.

What are gas fees?

Gas fees are the cost of processing transactions on the Ethereum network. This means that the cost of minting an NFT is the sum of the mint price and the gas fee.

When does the auction start?

The auction begins on Sunday 16th March 2025 at 3:00 PM GMT (7:00 AM PST, 8:00 AM MST, 9:00 AM CST, 10:00 AM EST, 11:00 AM AST, 12:00 Midday BRT, 3:00 PM UTC, 4:00 PM CET, 8:30 PM IST, 11:00 PM CST, 12:00 Midnight JST, 2:00 AM (+1d) AEDT)

Can I get a refund after minting?

NFT purchases are final - we do not offer refunds once the transaction is confirmed on the blockchain. Any overpayments during minting, although unlikely, resulting from the price drops of the auction format will be automatically refunded by the mint function of the contract.

What is the resolution of each NFT?

Each image is an ultra-high resolution image, measuring 3000x3000px. This enables a unique property of the OceanChaos collection, whereby zooming in (and out) of the image will cause a moiré pattern, ever so slightly adjusting the appearance at different zoom levels.

How do I view my NFT after purchase?

Your NFT will appear in your connected wallet immediately after minting, and will be viewable on marketplaces such as OpenSea and Rarible shortly after transaction confirmation.

Is there a limit to how many I can mint?

Yes, each wallet can mint up to 3 NFTs.

Can I use a Smart Wallet such as Safe{Wallet} to mint?

Smart Contract wallets are wallets that utilise smart contract technology. Unfortunately, due to the bot protection implemented in the NFT contract to ensure fair minting, Smart Wallets are not supported. Please use MetaMask to mint via this minting website or another non-Smart Wallet to mint using the OceanChaos contract.

Can I review the OceanChaos smart contract before minting?

Yes, you can review the OceanChaos smart contract on network explorers such as Etherscan before minting. You can find the contract here.

Why does the contract include functions to set the baseURI and contractURI after deployment? Am I at risk of my NFT image or metadata being changed?

While the contract includes functions for URI management, your NFT's artwork and metadata are permanently secured. The baseURI and contractURI are set to IPFS-hosted immutable content during deployment. These functions, only accessible to RP as the owner, exist solely as a failsafe to ensure perpetual access for all artwork owners - in the extremely unlikely case of catastrophic infrastructure failures on the IPFS network, these functions could be used to point to new hosting locations, and will never be used to modify or remove existing content. RP wants owners to enjoy his artwork forever and is committed to preserving access to the artwork, hence the inclusion of these functions.

Where is the NFT content hosted and why use IPFS?

All artwork and metadata are permanently stored on IPFS (InterPlanetary File System), a decentralized storage network. This ensures:

  • Content-addressable storage - each file has a unique fingerprint that can't be altered
  • Decentralized persistence - files are distributed across multiple nodes worldwide
  • Tamper resistance - no single entity can remove or tamper with the content

Even if our primary hosting were compromised, your NFT's data remains securely preserved on IPFS. RP has implemented multiple redundancy measures to guarantee perpetual access, with content in IPFS pinned with Pinata and backed up with NFT.storage.

Will RP receive any royalties from secondary sales of his artwork?

An optional royalty rate of 7.77% (RP likes symmetrical numbers - hence future collections will have a supply of 1,111 pieces 👀) of the secondary sale price is set. This is optional, meaning it is not enforced as part of the contract. This means that for every secondary sale of an art piece (which does not include the initial mint), between 0% and 7.77% of the sale price, at the discretion of the seller, can be sent as royalties to RP.
